With bird feeders in the trees, we get a lot of birds visiting us – one of our favorites is a pair of woodpeckers who nest in the woods by the river and can often be heard making a racket knocking on the trees!
With dippers in the Teign Valley, king fishers, woodpeckers, lots of blue tits and nuthatchs, this is a lovely place to sit and admire these colourful active birds. You’d never believe that you are only 7 miles from Exeter….

Who's making all that noise!!
Orchard Barn Bed and Breakfast just 7 miles from Exeter is idealy situated for anyone looking to stay on the Dartmoor National Park and be close to the Capital City of Devon and all its many wanderful facilities.
We’re on a quiet B Road en route to Mortonhampstaead which is another gateway onto the many and varied parts of the National Park……….our B&B overlooks the River Teign at the famous Dunsford Stepping Stones with all bedrooms having a panoramic view of the river and surrounding National Trust Woodland. It’s spectacular – take a look at orchardbarn.info and the 360 degree camera shots of both the house, gardens and the river.

ORCHARD BARN FRONTAGE
This is one of the most flexible properties to book into for either B&B or Self Catering situated on the principle gateway onto Dartmoor itself. Do look at the web at orchardbarn.info and see for yourself.

Teign Valley riverside Daffs in bloom overlooking the famous Dunsford Stepping Stones, all 14 giant granite steps being almost invisible under the recent flood water that is!!

River Teign running reasonably high after recent rains…………and the Moles have had to move to higher ground too!!

Spring flowers are starting to burst into colour and Easter B&B bookings and beyond are also starting to show promise too.

Spring is ‘definately’ in the air at Orchard Barn….. and guests will be delighted to meet Lesley when they come and stay as she adds a new dimension to the happy atmosphere around the place!!

View across the Camel Estuary
During the half term break I nipped down to Rock in Cornwall to stay over night with Robin and Ann Stow and their lovely children Jack and Genevieve at one of their many holiday rental venues they’ve frequented over the years – The Blue Tomato. It’s a tad tired and has many bodge job repairs here and there………….BUT……….the views across the Camel Estuary are quite stunning and it has that certain Cornish magic and unparallelled prime position to enjoy the wonderful views. The light is superb and there’s a panoramic vista up the river towards Wadebridge one way and out to sea the other. It’s a haven for wild life, sailors, skiers and tourists various. The Rock – Padstow ferry terminal and the Camel Ski School activity create a busy ‘People Watchers’ paradise………. the cafe with the unusual name is popular and well placed to catch the many ferry users crossing too and fro from Padstow and caters for all comers young and old looking for a simple ice cream through to more substantial holiday fayre. Rick Stein’s it’s NOT but then again the prices are reasonable, views are far better and you don’t have to book 3 months in advance nor sell a few oil wells to cover the bill either!! A highly commendable year round holiday venue….check it out for yourself and only an hour and a bit from Orchard Barn!!
