Having been looking for some time now I am pleased to announce a recent adjustment within the management team at Orchard Barn B&B………………..ici le sous-chef qui s’apelle Lesley, elle et trez belle et le petit dejunier dans la maison sont plus mejor then ever they were when I was cookin’!!!

Les deux Chefs aux bord de la mer en Cornwall pendre un petit kip at the top of the hill n’est pas!!

So when anyone phones to book in and Lesley answers the blower………..si vous pait, demande que “est that le Sous-Chef peutetre?”

During the half term break I nipped down to Rock in Cornwall to stay over night with Robin and Ann Stow and their lovely children Jack and Genevieve at one of their many holiday rental venues they’ve frequented over the years – The Blue Tomato. It’s a tad tired and has many bodge job repairs here and there………….BUT……….the views across the Camel Estuary are quite stunning and it has that certain Cornish magic and unparallelled prime position to enjoy the wonderful views. The light is superb and there’s a panoramic vista up the river towards Wadebridge one way and out to sea the other. It’s a haven for wild life, sailors, skiers and tourists various. The Rock – Padstow ferry terminal and the Camel Ski School activity create a busy ‘People Watchers’ paradise………. the cafe with the unusual name is popular and well placed to catch the many ferry users crossing too and fro from Padstow and caters for all comers young and old looking for a simple ice cream through to more substantial holiday fayre. Rick Stein’s it’s NOT but then again the prices are reasonable, views are far better and you don’t have to book 3 months in advance nor sell a few oil wells to cover the bill either!! A highly commendable year round holiday venue….check it out for yourself and only an hour and a bit from Orchard Barn!!

Debbie at Charlestown in Cornwall
During her stay at Orchard Barn Debbie took a trip down to Cornwall and did a double visit to both Charlestown with the Tall Ships in the Harbour and also the Eden Project. It’s only an hour and 5 mins in the car between Orchard Barn and the Eden Project and a lovely drive down the A30 across Bodmin Moor.
She had a lovely day in the sunshine and having never been to either location thoroughly enjoyed them both ..especially as it was sunny for once!!
Other guests staying that W/E were Sarah and Julian from Woodbridge in Suffolk……….old friends en route to stay with family in the West Country and braking their journey with me. I was treated to a delightful sups at the Drew Arms in Drewsteignton……..always a great pleasure to go there and their Otter Ale 4.5% is spot on too!!
