Self-Catering at Orchard Barn, Dunsford, Dartmoor, Devon, UK

Great-pick-A-House-front-sep-06-011

After successfully letting Orchard Barn on a self-catering basis a number of times last year including a week before Christmas and the New Year, Lesley and I have decided to promote the scheme more often this  year.

Lesley-and-I-at-Box-Hill-picnic

Basically the whole house, attached Cider Barn and main gardens will be available for let on a self-catering basis over selected days/weeks when we plan to be either away elsewhere in the caravan or on holiday abroad.

The house will be fully furnished and equipped as any normal home, sleeping 6 (rising to 8 with inflatables for children as required) with all 4 Bedrooms fully made up with fresh flowers throughout…………a handy comlimentary ‘Welcome Pack’  in the fridge, access and use of washing machine,  phone, computer, broadband wifi, iPod, Sterio system, Freeserve HD TV and CD/Video……………..BarBQ in the Summer, logs aplenty in the winter, use of the garden furniture, sofas in the Cider Barn and everything you would normally expect in a comfortable family home will remain in situ for your usage.

Prices will vary and start at £500 rising to £1200 for the Christmas week……for further details do contact Ian and Lesley on 01647-252620 or by e-mail on ilfcorner@tiscali.co

Self-Catering 2010 availability dates are:

  • (A) Sat 6 – Sat 13 Mar 2010 – (7 Nights)

  • (C) – £500
  • (D) – £1000
  • (E) – £800
  • (F) – £800

A £200 deposit cheque will secure your booking and full payment will be sought 2 weeks prior to your stay. On arrival the deposit cheque then becomes the damage and breakage cheque and will be retained (uncashed) at the start of your holiday and returned in full (or part thereof) on completion.

We”ve never had a  problem to date and  our  guests have been thoughtful and careful of Orchard Barn………….however it’s worth gently pointing out that Guests are expected to be respectful of  our home and leave it as they find it – clean and tidy throughout.

If you’d like to have a fantastic holiday in the Teign Valley and stay at this wonderful riverside property then do please get in touch. There are loads of other photos to see what’s what on the main web site – open up the Galleries button at the top of the home page and explore the first option called  ’Around Orchard Barn B&B’.

Cheers,

Ian and Lesley

Farmer Colin Hellier’s 3 Daughers quench their thirst with Orchard Barn Scrumpy Cider

Colin and Olive Hellier’s 3 daughters return together for the first time to their old redundant farm buildings and reminisce with childhood memories vividly recalling playing as youngsters (now Orchard Barn B&B) and together with some of their children quench their Easter Sunday thirst with a glass of Scrumpy Cider made from their Father’s apples. As you can see – laughter and empty glasses says it all and at 6% it has a magic effect on everybody………..!!

Visiting friends at The Blue Tomato in Rock, Cornwall

View across the Camel Estuary

During the half term break I nipped down to Rock in Cornwall to stay over night with Robin and Ann Stow and their lovely children Jack and Genevieve at one of their many holiday rental venues they’ve frequented over the years – The Blue Tomato. It’s a tad tired and has many bodge job repairs here and there………….BUT……….the views across the Camel Estuary are quite stunning and it has that certain Cornish magic and unparallelled prime position to enjoy the wonderful views. The light is superb and there’s a panoramic vista up the river towards Wadebridge one way and out to sea the other. It’s a haven for wild life, sailors, skiers and tourists various. The Rock – Padstow ferry terminal and the Camel Ski School activity create a busy ‘People Watchers’ paradise………. the cafe with the unusual name is popular and well placed to catch the many ferry users crossing too and fro from Padstow and caters for all comers young and old looking for a simple ice cream through to more substantial holiday fayre. Rick Stein’s it’s NOT but then again the prices are reasonable, views are far better and you don’t have to book 3 months in advance nor sell a few oil wells to cover the bill either!! A highly commendable year round holiday venue….check it out for yourself and only an hour and a bit from Orchard Barn!!

French Exchange Walkers visit Orchard Barn for Lunch and Scrumpy

French Exchange Pedal Bashers enjoy a luncheon at Orchard Barn

I was asked earlier in the year if I’d like to host the Teign Valley Pedal Bashers French Exchange Luncheon – it was a really fun event and particularly as the French guests left their bikes behind and walked instead………..I put that down to the fact that last time they called in for Scrumpy Cider a few years earlier half of them fell off their bikes or worse still couldn’t get on even shortly afterwards!!!

There were about 45 all up including Brit Hosts which was considered a good turn-out as it clashed with Hat Rack’s Coach trip Hash Weekend in France……….Blaster and Rough Jobs rendition of ‘Allouetta’ (sp!!) was brilliant and had everybody in stitches……….as usual. Their warm up at The Royal Oak was apparently terrific………..maybe the BBC should check out a winter edition of The Teign Valley’s Got Talent!!

Hot Pasties, Le Sandwich Anglais avec les oeuffs etc.!!!

The weather was kind despite the appalling forecast and the French Guests all had their fill of Devon Cider, Orchard Barn hospitality, the Pedal Bashers magic humour and terrific company to make this another special day for everybody.
